Allen Chukwuhdi (Pronounced, Chuk—Coo-Day) is a native New Yorker who is originally from the Bronx. According to Allen his first true love was music, “I used to play the recorder which is a reed instrument like the clarinet and, the tuba which is the original bass instrument in jazz. I even experimented with the baritone and sang. I was sure that someday I would be a musician and play in a big band. But I guess it was divine intervention that I began a conversation with a guy who turned out to be an acting coach. As we parted, he said “I teach a class of working professionals and I think you’d make a good actor. Why don’t you come and join us? I won’t charge you anything for the first month”. “I was skeptical but I accepted his invitation and checked out his class and, on that note of uncertainty I began my acting career”.
Currently, Allen has numerous credits on stage, in commercials and film. He was the first African-American to appear on the daytime television serial ‘Ryan’s Hope’. Moreover, he has appeared with renowned theatre groups like the ‘Negro Ensemble Company’ and in films with Laurence Fishburne, Robert Townsend, Natalie Wood, Denzel Washington, Ray Sharkey, Michael Ontkean, Maude Adams, Margot Kidder, Bruce Dern and on ‘Saturday Night Live’ with Dave Chappelle, see, also, resume.

“I always felt I had a story to tell and when I’m acting, that is, when I’m interpreting someone else’s story what I’m actually doing is revealing fragments of my own life. Consequently, acting and writing have allowed me to explore my personal character. In a nutshell, the search for ‘artistic truths’ has allowed me to stay in touch with myself”. Perhaps, that’s also why he loves talking to people, likes to facilitate discussion groups and, demonstrates a fervent interest in important social issues. “I think the stars are aligned right and that I have a great future. I’m looking forward to returning to television on a full-time basis”.
